What’s next for Melissa Anderson aka SHIMMER Cheerleader Melissa?

Slam! Wrestling had the privilige of a great interview with Future Legend Cheerleader Melissa at the Cauliflower Alley Club reunion. We get to read about Cheerleader Melissa’s reasoning for leaving TNA and what’s she’s been up to.

Slam! Wrestling reports that it was changes on the creative side, including the departures of Dutch Mantell and Scott D’Amore, that contributed significantly to the move.

“It was the changes behind the scenes, and nothing more. It was a very mutual split and it was time to move on. TNA is going forward with their direction as a whole, as a company, and I saw all the other opportunities.”

Cheerleader Melissa has set her sights on Lucha Libra.

“I’m in light talks with Mexico, and that’s something that I would really love just to add to my career. I spent a lot of time in Japan, the United States, Canada, a lot of time in Europe. I never really gave Mexico a shot, so that’s a personal goal for myself right now.”

Another project in the works is a working agreement between the various promotions worldwide that showcase women’s wrestling.

“The new project I’ve been working on is the Female Fight League, which the announcement was just made during the Cauliflower Alley convention, the Baloney Blowout. Basically, it’s going to be a female version of the NWA. The details are still being worked out. We really want to do something to boost female wrestling as a whole throughout the world, and, mainly, the United States.”

Slam! Wrestling asked Melissa if the Female Fight League perhaps a reaction to the state of women’s wrestling at the moment?

“There’s a lot of people that have been coming up to me that are a little bit frustrated with the state right now. Is it going up? Is it going down? I can’t really speak on that. But there’s a lot of frustration, and there are a lot of wrestling fans that are big fans of female wrestling.”

Slam! Wrestling lists off Femmes Fatales in Montreal, ChickFight in California, SHIMMER out of Chicago, WSU in New England, and Pro Wrestling EVE in England and says that not all of the companies are on board yet with the Female Fight League.

Melissa explains, “It’s very, very good that we have those companies out there, and we hope for, with the Female Fight League, that these companies are able to work together to make it bigger in the United States. Our companies, they’re so spread out, we’re not really in competition with each other, so we need to find a way to work together to put a lot more focus on it.”

You can read the whole article at Slam! Wrestling.

In our opinion, Cheerleader Melissa is in the right track in regards to women wrestling. Women’s wrestling is in a niche market within wrestling. The best company models for women wrestling are going to be small, lean and mean, and no one company is going to threaten the market share of another company. There’s only so much growth for women wrestling and that limits the threat of new promotions popping up to steal market share for any established company. An alliance, then, with each company taking a region and working together to promote all women wrestling makes sense.

We just posted up our thoughts on what Lisa Marie Varon should be doing next. In our opinion, Lisa Marie Varon could up her game and work more on the business side of wrestling. Lisa doesn’t have anything else to prove in-ring. Her rub and her connections in the industry, including ex-divas like Trish Stratus, Stacy Keibler and now Mickie James, could make a tremendous difference in getting a time slot for independent women wrestling on TV. A show where creative control isn’t in the hands of Jimmy Hart, or Vince McMahon, and there’s adequate funding for a quality product.

Blog talk

Hey people,

I just had a short stack oh homemade wheat and protein pancakes with banana and peanut butter so I am in a fantastic mood and figured what better time to write a blog!

So here goes..

As of last night I am the first ever Jersey All Pro Womens Champion! Yes that’s write I’m starting a trend …I’m collecting belts! For anyone interested I will be having my first title defense August 1st…check out Jersey All Pro for tickets, venue and who my opponent will be.

Last week I took part in ACW’s American Joshi Queen of Queens tournament. I came very close to taking the whole thing by defeating Angel Blue the Rachel Summerlyn but that darn Daizee Haze had my number…that night.

All and all it was a real fun event lots of great talent and definatly worth checking out once released on DVD.

Can’t wait for the DVD????? Check these out !

On to sadder news.. The world is a less bright place with out the entertaining skills of Mitsuharu Misawa, Michael Jackson and Farrah Fawcett. I like everyone was stunned by the sudden loss of both Misawa and Michael. I was fortunate enough to meet Misawa many times and get to see him wrestle live and I cherish those memories. RIP you were all taken to soon.

I guess to lighten the mood I will discuss my new diet..it is awesome! It has only been a week and I already feel changes..I guess I have to give credit to my new workout as well. For those interested it is the “Vacation Countdown” program in this months Muscle and Fitness Hers..The one with Kim Kardashian on the cover…

Side note..well rant Warning!!

I am almost insulted that Kim Kardashian is the cover girl on a muscle and fitness magazine…She just looks skinny to me. I mean she has a great body and good for her that she works out but really muscle and fitness???? Not a good choice!

Back to my work out..I think it might also help that a new class session at my gym has started and this week my schedule allowed me to do Core/Spinning/Kickboxing and Yoga. I have never done a Spin class before but tried it a few weeks ago when it was a free trial and I fell in love! With Wrestling, Kickboxing and weight training sometimes my joints feel tired and beat up but not after Spin. I feel wiped out but good!! So if you can try it I give it two thumbs up!

I guess that is it for now!

Take care everyone!

Daffney versus Raisha Saeed

Wow! What a great match. The women wrestlers coming out of Shimmer are amazing. WWE fans who talk about the golden era of women wrestling only need to check out SHIMMER- and TNA since they’re utilizing SHIMMER women athletes every chance they get to see what they loved during the attitude era.

A Real Blog from Sara Del Ray

kongray.jpegSara Del Ray recently posted on her myspace,

Hey all!!!

Here is a real blog about the happenings of my world.

As most of you know last weekend was SHIMMER and WOW what a fun time. My first match was vs. a very very great talent from Australia Madison Eagles. To say she is good is an understatement she is phenomenal! I wish I could wrestle her everyday of the week she just gets it!

Speaking of getting it…some people don’t! It blows my mind and I don’t want to bury anybody so I’ll leave it at that. I once heard someones wrestling style described as insulting and yes folks I have been insulted by many women.

Back to Shimmer…The rest of the weekend I teamed up with the Amazing Awesome Kong. This might be bold but I say we are one of the top 10 female tag teams of all time…Maybe even top five. We are GREAT and we look GREAT. I had a picture up here for “a hot minute” so anyone who caught it could vouch how BAD in a good way we looked! Our matches all went real well and super easy… not that our opponents were not challenging because they were. It was just that I felt completely on the same page with my partner and things just seemed to happen. So go us…anyone have a name idea????

I have been messaged by many people saying paypal has been having problems so if you are one of them you can still order just send the correct payments to dgxgirl@hotmail.com and let me know what you want.

Speaking of what you want if you ever though to your self…Hey, I would look good in that…or Hey, that would look cool on my wall…or Hey, I wish I could burn that…Here’s your chance I am selling some of my gear. first time ever and maybe last so if you have ever asked yourself one of the above questions this is for you. Contact me here!

I got to see the pilot for Wrestlelicious lat weekend and it was great! Say what you want but I was entertained. The wrestlers were able to wrestle and I think everyone will appreciate the effort put forth by all the girls.

This weekend (tomorrow) I am wrestling my new tag partner for JAPWD. If anyone wants to check it out:

JAPW returns with the Women’s Division superstars at the Rahway Rec Center, 275 East Milton Ave. Belltime: 4:00pm

Hope to see you all there!

Important Smackdown spoiler that we don’t want to post

gailkimnadia.jpegWe’ve got a spoiler from this week’s double header involving a returning WWE Diva that we’re dying to share. Problem is, we don’t want to ruin the surprise for women wrestling fans. But it’s so sweet! Okay, we’ve decided to compromise: the Smackdown spoilers are up at our affiliate site, wrestlingconfidential.com. If you want to find out what’s going on, check out the link. Otherwise, we strongly recommend you watch the 03.27.09 episode of Smackdown!

On another, completely different note, has anyone else noticed that talk about an all-women wrestling show on prime-time TV keep coming up in whatever company Gail Kim’s working for? Anyone who’s watched SHIMMER or JAPW knows that given the opportunity, women wrestlers can put on a hell of a show. There was tonnes of speculation that the Knockouts could handle a regular show on prime time- and then TNA let Gail Kim go. Now we’re waiting for the TNA Knockouts to find their momentum again. With the talent pool the Knockouts can tap into, it’s just a matter of getting the right booker. But, the idea of a TNA all-Knockout wrestling show has cooled for the moment. Now, WWE’s actually going to do an all-Diva show on ECW and as a lead in to a main event at WrestleMania! And the commonality is: Gail Kim.

We’re just saying.

SHIMMER Champion “Your Soul’s Tormentor” MsChif interview

clockworkmschif.jpgCaptured-Beauty.com recently conducted an interesting interview with MsChif. Here are some highlights:

How did your MsChif gimmick come about, did you think of it or was it somebody who gave you the idea?

The promotion I debuted with had asked for me to be a crazy character. Crazy, I just didn’t quite have in me though. So instead trying to be something that just wasn’t me, I let surface what was awaiting inside. The gimmick was born in my 1st match. I went out to the ring and gave them what I had and it has just developed along since.

Who’s your favorite female athlete to work with, and if so — Who’s your least favorite female athlete to work with?

This has to be one of the hardest questions to answer. Seriously. By what terms would one base this on? How good they are technically? Challenging? Best in working against my character? Their psychological ability? How colorful of a character they display? The hilarity or brutality in their character’s nature? I could easily come up with about a dozen different women all based on different reasons.

We’ve seen some of your stellar matches against the likes of Lacey, Amazing Kong, Cheerleader Melissa just to name a few. Out of all the matches you’ve done, what is your favorite match?

I’d have to answer this as the SHIMMER vol.9 match against Amazing Kong. Simply because she presents a challenge that no other woman can. If I can survive through the punishment of Kong, I can survive through anyone.

If you could wrestle someone that you haven’t wrestled yet, who would that be?

Clarifying in a singles match, Sara Del Rey. Also, LuFisto, well other than on Fire Pro Wrestling Returns!

How did Diabolic Khaos come about and can we expect a reunion? Maybe with Daffney as your manager?

Delirious and I debuted together. Who can tell what the future will hold. We have actually had a couple reunions already. In the NWA midwest as well as back in our old stomping grounds of the St. Louis area.

You have had both male and female opponents throughout your career thus far. Do you feel as though male vs. female matches work as well as say male vs. male or female vs. female?

Sure they do. What’s the difference from fighting a guy, or fighting a bigger and stronger woman? I just look at matches as wrestler vs. wrestler.

We have watched you wrestle in a variety of matches – Falls Count Anywhere matches, Cage matches and more. What stipulation do you feel most comfortable with, or is it traditional singles matches that do it for you?

I love wrestling in stipulation matches though I draw the line on death matches. I just have no interest in them for myself. While traditional matches can still be great, I love wrestling in any match different from the norm. I don’t think I’ve ever been uncomfortable when given any type of stipulation match.

What was it like to wrestle in Japan? Was there anyone out there you really enjoyed to wrestle against during your stay? Any chance of you going to Japan again in the future?

Awesome! I loved wrestling against Yoshiko Tamura, she’s a fantastic wrestler. I really enjoyed wrestling Tanny Mouse as well. She’s just hilarious and fun.

How did you get started in the wrestling business? Was there anything in particular that really attracted you to wrestling and made you think “Yeah, this is what I’m supposed to be doing”?

I had always been a fan of wrestling. Someone had once asked me, “If there is one fun thing you’d like to do in your life what would that be?” I told them become a wrestler. Shortly after that I looked up the nearest wrestling school and went to check it out.

What are your thoughts on Daffney and who came up with the idea to pair you guys together? Would you ever be interested in having a match against her in Shimmer?

I love being paired with Daffney. I believe we were once conjoined twins separated at birth. I would never want to wrestle her in SHIMMER because I’d never want to leave her side.

MsChif and Daffney- conjoined twins at birth?

‘Future Legend’ Cheerleader Melissa poll

cheerleadermelissa.jpgWe close up our poll on Cheerleader Melissa. Our question was, “Should TNA let Cheerleader Melissa wrestle as herself and drop Raisha Saeed?” Women wrestling fans overwhelmingly voted in favour of seeing Cheerleader Melissa on TNA in favour of Raisha Saeed.

Well, we like Cheerleader Melissa but TNA likes ownership over the name and image of their wrestlers. There’s really no way to repackage Cheerleader Melissa- can you imagine TNA calling her Cheerleader Melanie? It’s just not the same…not even right! Not even ‘Amazing’ Kong got to keep her name.

Still, TNA would benefit from ‘leasing’ Melissa’s image, don’t you think? Business can be flexable, you know…

We just want to finish this by quoting some of Christi Lott’s article on Cheerleader Melissa on the bleacherreport.com. We think Christi summed up Cheerleader Melissa’s appeal perfectly.

‘I’ve been able to watch alot of matches and I can say this: the answer to TNA’s Knockout problems is Cheerleader Melissa aka Raisha Saeed.

‘A second generation wrestler, Melissa has an amateur wrestling background from high school and started training to professionally wrestle at a young age. She was invited to come wrestle at the now defunct ARSION Japanese Women’s Wrestling promotion where she put on a stellar match against Mariko Yoshida, one of the greatest wrestlers of all time, male or female.

‘She’s been recognized at least three times by two different clubs as a “future Legend”, something I agree with. Thanks to the cheerleader gimmick, coming out in a cheerleader inspired gimmick (pom-poms included), Melissa is quite recognizable and has a successful record as a part of SHIMMER and for me, she has one of the best finishers of all time, the Kudo Driver.

‘Only recently in TNA as Raisha Saeed has she started wrestling. I enjoy this gimmick as Kong should not be the type of monster heel that needs to speak. She has competed in her cheerleader gimmick once on Impact back in May. I am completely dumbfounded as to why TNA has not capitalized on having her as a part of their roster. The gimmick is quite recognizable to those who know the indy scene and those who don’t.

‘I’ve said before that if TNA wants to be truly different from the WWE, they need to push someone the WWE never would, which is why Kong has been and is champion, and now thankfully, ODB is the next contender and hopefully the next champion as it’s been a long time coming.

‘I say that Melissa is their secret weapon for many reasons. One, she’s an independent wrestler with little but good ties to the WWE (she participated in WWE workouts with Molly Holly, Ivory, and Jazz, and even wrestled Victoria in 2006 on WWE Heat), but has a solid natural wrestling background with bragging rights of wrestling in Japan.

‘She’s stunningly beautiful which, let’s face it, is a big deal in getting causal wrestling fans or non women’s wrestling fans to pay attention to your match. She’s got a great gimmick-who doesn’t love a woman who wrestles in a cheerleading costume?! She’s got everything TNA craves in making themselves different from their competition.

‘Thanks to her I’ve been exposed and interested in this Indy scene. TNA would be wise to either unmask her or let her do doubly duty in TNA and making that a conflict of interest for herself and Awesome Kong, which could be an interesting storyline. I for one look forward to her being fully exposed to the rest of the wrestling audience because this woman is a talent that shouldn’t be ignored…or hidden under a burkha’

’nuff said.

Sara Del Ray…for the love of Koalas!

saradelray1.jpegSera Del Ray took out the time to catch up with her peeps on MySpace, posting about Christmas, Australia, pizza and her newfound love for…koalas…

Friday, February 13, 2009

Long time no talk! I wish I could say I have been so busy and have not
had time to write a blog but that would be a lie I’m just lazy!

First off I wanted to thank all of the people who sent me something for
my Birthday..Christmas…I got way more than I deserve. I have used, wore
and eaten all my presents and enjoyed everything so freaking much. I
totally was going to take pictures with everything and post them or
write thank you notes but like I mentioned above I am lazy. So THANK
YOU to everyone!

So much has happened since my last blog I don’t even know what to start
with. I guess I can start with my new found love of koalas…for those
of you that don’t know…Koalas are the cutest animals EVER. Young or
old they are adorable…I have this weird love of old people so that
might be part of my koala obsession they all look like furry old men.

Where did I see these creatures you ask??? Where else….. Australia! I
was fortunate enough to get to work out there in December. I had an
amazing time and meet some amazing people and got to stay with yeah you
guessed it an AMAZING family. Everyone was so cool I had such a good
time so thank you to everyone over there for welcoming me and taking
such good care of me.

January started out right…I got to ring in the New Year with a very
pregnant friend and her husband. If anyone does not know the joy of
Cici’s pizza you NEED to find out!

I guess I will end this now on a happy note because if I get into wrestling it will just be a bitter rant.

So in closing thank you all again and find out about Koala’s and Cici’s!

This is simply an amazing tribute clip to Sara Del Ray.

Thoughts on Sara Palin and The Beautiful People

daffney.jpegTo everyone who has been cringing for the last three months as the ongoing Sara Palin and The Beautiful People saga has developed before our unbelieving eyes, I just gotta say….

…I like the angle. I thought Sara Palin and The Beautiful People was actually entertaining, with some genuinely funny segments. If you want a subtle and deep storyline with nuance, I heartily recommend the new Battlestar Galactica series on the Sci-Fi network. If you want a mix of improv and ass-whopping in front of a live audience, let’s hang out and watch pro wrestling. Honestly, I don’t expect backstage segments to come off like Shakespeare.

TBP continued to think they’ve got a ticket to power with Sara Palin months after the election ended and Obama’s team won. Come on, (my elbow in your rib) that’s funny!!!

So, with my low standards, maybe the segments with Sara Palin and TBP didn’t have a hard time winning me over.

Now we have a ‘not bad’ feud with TBP and the Knockout Babyfaces. I thought maybe TNA would kill this feud after one match. Normally, Jeff Jarrett and Vince Russo have the attention span of toddlers. Would you carpool with those swerve happy momentum killers?

So, TBP get the Nickleodean treatment and out comes Taylor Wilde and Roxxi to take the credit for Sara Palin. Naturally, this leads to a booked match with TBP facing off against Taylor and Roxxi. Velvet Sky gets the pin, the faces are about to get the brown bag treatment and our comes Sara Palin to low blow Kip and make the save, tossing TBP out of the ring.

So, Sara Palin still isn’t done with TBP. Now it’s getting personal.

Okay, maybe this feud is accelerating pattern baldness in die-hard TNA fans tired of trying to explain why they watch not only wrestling, but TNA. I really don’t have that problem. I accomodate this feud because the Sara Palin impersonator is none other than SHIMMER’s “Scream Queen” Daffney- who, in my book, kicks ass.

That’s SHIMMER Daffney doing Sara Palin.
