Interview with OVW Women’s Champion Milena Roucka

Milena Roucka from OVWMilena Roucka might be beautiful to look at, but you don’t want to cross this Latino spitfire, or you might find yourself in a lot of pain.

“I love beating people up,” said the current Ohio Valley Wrestling women’s champ. “I’ll do whatever it takes to win; lie, cheat, whatever. Hearing the 1-2-3 is all that matters to me. It’s priceless.”

Before coming to OVW, Roucka was training for K-1, a form of mixed martial arts, and doing some modeling on the side. Then she heard about the World Wrestling Entertainment’s Diva Search, and she decided to enter the 2006 competition, where she finished as a semi-finalist. The WWE then signed her to a developmental contract in August of that year and sent her to OVW for training. “It couldn’t have worked out better for me,” Roucka said.

Since coming to OVW, Roucka, despite her beauty, hasn’t made too many fans. Of course, that might be due to the fact that she aligned herself with Mike W. Kruel, one of the most hated men in OVW.

“I respect Mike,” Roucka said when asked why she joined his stable. “He’s a very talented guy. I’m like the female version of him. I respect him so much. He’s amazing.”

Not many people share her respect for Kruel. Of course, that really doesn’t concern her. Winning is all that matters to her. That, and “The Roucka Show,” which airs during OVW broadcasts.

The show was originally “Kat’s Cradle,” and was hosted by Katie Lea. When Lea went overseas for a trip, Roucka jumped at the chance to take over the spot.

“It’s my show now,” Roucka said. And what about when Lea returns? “She’s going to have to deal with it. I’m the champ. She hasn’t done anything.” One thing’s for sure: She doesn’t lack for confidence.

When asked who she considers the top contenders for her belt, the answer was simple: Nobody.

“I’m the best,” she said. “I’m sure Kat (Katie Lea) will be trying to get the title back, but I plan on keeping it around this beautiful, Latino waist.”

While modeling, Roucka said she felt like something was missing from her life. An extremely competitive and feisty person, she was looking to show people a different side of her. Once she found wrestling, she knew this was what she had been looking for.

“It’s a passion of mine,” Roucka said. “Fighting, wrestling, martial arts. I really enjoy performing in front of people, whether they cheer me or boo me. I guess you could say I’m an adrenaline junkie.”

Before getting into the sport, Roucka watched wrestling, and idolized Trish Stratus and the late Sherri Martel. “I’m sad that she’s not with us anymore,” Roucka said of Martel, who passed away recently. While she loved watching those two wrestle, she tries to be herself in the ring.

“What you see is pretty much me,” Roucka said. “My personality is aggressive, confident and cocky. I want to be myself.”

And while getting the call up to the WWE is every wrestler’s goal, Roucka said right now she’s just concentrating on her OVW title, which she won from ODB.

“I always live for right now,” she said. “It’s in God’s hands. I just live for the moment.”

Her ultimate goal is to be the best women’s champion ever, and to perfect her craft.

“I’m in this for the long haul,” she said. “I’m not in this just to be on television. I want to be the best I can be, and I want people to respect me. Coming from modeling, that makes it harder. But I want people to look at me not as a model, but as a great athlete.” She added that wrestling has been very challenging, and she now knows this is what she wants to do.

“I haven’t been so sure about what I wanted to do in life as I am about wrestling,” Roucka said.

And she has this message for the fans in London.

“I work hard, so you better respect me,” Roucka said. “I don’t care if you like me or not, just respect me. For those that love and cheer me, thank you very much. And respect Mike Kruel as well, Disrespecting him is like disrespecting me.”

Ohio Valley Wrestling will be in London, KY Saturday night.

Random News: Katie Lea, Krissy Vaine, Jillian, & More

WWE Diva Katherine aka Katie LeaRecently released WWE talents Krissy Vaine and Ryan O’Reilly have spoken for the first time since their departure from the company in a new interview with Slam! Wrestling. The couple wanted fans to know what their reasoning was behind asking WWE for their release. Basically, the two chose to put their families before their wrestling career at this time. Apparently being away from home and family was beginning to take its toll on the two. When it comes down to it, you really can’t blame them. Both of them like the idea of wrestling in TNA in the future, where O’Reilly worked in the company’s early days.

RAW Diva Jillian Hall has posted a new blog on her official MySpace and speaks on some personal problems going on in her life, noting this past week has been a rough one. Jillian says her new motto is “Don’t trust anyone.” Jillian also says she won’t be joining the WWE superstars currently on tour in Europe until RAW on Monday.

This weekend WWE debuted it’s newest Diva, Katherine, who appeared in a bikini contest with Maryse, Michelle McCool and Victoria. Katherine has been working in OVW wrestling at Katie Lea. Katherine has feuded with Beth Phoenix in OVW and is a former OVW Women’s Champion.

As we reported yesterday, Empress Sayuri was seriously injured at the latest Ring Divas house show taping in Charlotte, NC. Due to this injury, the Board of Directors have announced that the Womens World title and the Fight Girls World title have been vacated. We will keep you informed as more news breaks on this story.

Interview with Pro Wrestler & IFBB Pro Female Bodybuilder Melissa Coates

Melissa CoatesMelissa Coates was one of the most photographed women in professional bodybuilding, and reached top 10 in the world status before making the decision to go into pro wrestling. Although not under contract, Coates trained in the WWE development system at OVW and Deep South. She is currently a featured performer with NWA Anarchy.

Q: I wanted to ask you about your family background. In your bio, you said the rest of your family was pretty conventional.
Coates: I’m from Thunder Bay, Ontario. My father was a doctor. My mom was a nurse, and she was also an amateur actress, which is probably where I got some of performing interest from. My two brothers are doctors. My sister has written a few books, but she’s actually more of a social worker now. She also studied philosophy. I also went to school and got degree in Biology. I just ended up enjoying weightlifting and started doing powerlifting, and from there it progressed. I played a lot of sports when I was younger. I really loved tennis. At the time, the person I most looked up to was Martina Navratilova because of her muscular build, so I actually started using weights to train for tennis and I developed really easily, and it just kind of went from there. I have my college degree. I can fall back on it, I suppose, but I just enjoy sports. I’m the best athlete in my family. That’s what I enjoy, and lucky for me, I’ve had some success doing it. Breaking News: Ariel & Six Other Divas to Debut for TNA

Shelly Martinez aka ArielTNA will be crowning their first ever Women’s Champion in a 10-women gauntlet match at their annual Bound For Glory pay-per-view next month in Atlanta.

Jim Cornette noted that the match would feature “five girls you know” and “five girls you don’t know.” Christy Hemme, Gail Kim, Ms. Brooks, Jackie Moore and Roxxi Laveaux are pretty much locks to appear in the match.

According to WrestlingInc.com, the five other names contacted and likely booked for the match include Northeast women’s wrestler Talia Madison, former ECW Diva Shelly “Ariel” Martinez, ODB (who regularly appears on OVW shows, but is without a WWE developmental contract), Angel Williams, and international women’s wrestler Amazing Kong. According to WrestlingInc.com, Talia Madison and Shelly “Ariel” Martinez have been 100% confirmed to appear in the match.

The girl who seems to have the best chance at securing a permanent spot in the company is Martinez because TNA is already thinking about using her as a valet for LAX or James Mitchell’s group. Also, TNA is very interested in using Angel Williams and also feel that Amazing Kong would be make for a great addition to the company.

Other names being tossed around for the women’s division/gauntlet match include April Hunter, Sarah Stock and So Cal Val. Val would probably only be used as a backup in case someone can’t make it. Sarah Stock is a pretty girl that works under the name “Dark Angel” for CMLL in Mexico. WrestlingInc.com is reporting that TNA would like to bring her in for the women’s division, but there could be a hold-up due to the transportation costs if she chooses stay in Mexico City.

It should be noted that no one has been signed to a contract as of yet, just contacted and possibly booked. The gauntlet match will be a “tryout match” of sorts for the five uncontracted ladies. Depending on how things go during the match, the girls who put on the best performances will likely be offered contracts.

More on Why No WWE Divas Were Named in WWE Drug Scandal

Torrie WilsonDiscussions are ongoing about how to incorporate drug testing with developmental talent. WWE pretty much only tests contracted talent at WWE events, particularly SuperShows when everyone on the main roster is available. Developmental talent do get tested, but presumably not that frequently. The only developmental wrestler known to fail a Wellness test was Ryan Reeves, who was released earlier in the year.

As reported earlier, a number of WWE sources were reportedly surprised that no female WWE performers turned up on the Signature Pharmacy client list. The reason for this is because it is believed that the federal prosecutors only looked up male wrestlers from the active WWE roster for the most part. It is also believed that they didn’t look up people on the current TNA roster, although if a major name turned up, they would have recognized the person.

Anyway, prosecutors likely didn’t check the names on any girls, not realizing that at least a few of them reportedly use Growth Hormone to keep their bodies looking the way they do, particularly in the case of women entering their late 20s and the ones maintaining their near flawless figures well into their 30s. It is believed that a few of the divas use steroids to tighten and harden their figure without building unneeded mass mass, in addition to keeping their weight down. The drug Clenbuterol is said to be a favorite among a few of the WWE Divas. As of fall, 2006, Clenbuterol is not an ingredient of any therapeutic drug approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, but is still used as an unproven slimming aid, and is now banned for IOC-tested athletes.

Torrie Wilson & Victoria have obviously denied these claims because they still work for the company, but hey, so did Mr. Kennedy and look where he is now.

Beth Phoenix Returns to WWE…Finally!

Jillian Hall, Beth Phoenix, & MelinaA little more than one year ago Beth Phoenix stepped into the ring for her first singles match on Monday Night Raw. The outcome wasn’t at all what she or anyone else could have predicted – a broken jaw from a concrete-fisted shot to the face from Victoria.

The injury placed Beth on the shelf for the remainder of 2006, and half of 2007. Her return to the ring on Monday when she filled in for an “injured” Melina was almost as big of a surprise as the ending of her first match. Laying low and staying “out of sight, out of mind” while on injured reserve worked flawlessly upon her surprise return.

“My return was definitely strategic; it was definitely time to get back in the ring,” Beth said. “I went through a lot to come back. It took two titanium plates and nine screws to fix my jaw, and that’s all I’ve thought about since it happened. Before my match, the only thought I had went back to last year; how I was laid up in the hospital, how my jaw was broken in three places and misaligned so I couldn’t even talk.”

The pain pulsating from her mangled jaw and the surgery it took to fix it was nothing compared to the pain of watching other Raw Divas compete on national television while etching their mark in the fabrics of WWE history. The backlog of disdain that built up for the Divas healthy enough to compete (as well as chew food or talk) instilled in Beth a necessity to prove that the injury she suffered wasn’t a case of glass jaw. Instead, it was a freak accident that only postponed the inevitable.

“From the time I was able to exercise again, I worked on honing my craft and ultimately becoming more dangerous,” she said. “All the time on the shelf only made me angrier and more focused at reaching the top of WWE.”

However, who does her anger target? The Women’s Championship only fits around one waist, which makes her coalition with former Women’s Champion Melina extremely peculiar.

“The other Divas are intimidated by me – as they should be,” she scoffed. “I’m here to make an impact. Making friends is not on my agenda. Don’t get me wrong, all the Divas have to share space and have to be professional, but whoever is in my way will be plowed over if they don’t move.”

But that didn’t answer the question regarding her alliance with one of WWE’s most notorious gold-driven Divas.

“Look, it’s simple: I’m here to do what’s best for me and my career to make it to the top,” she snapped. “It’s time for me to make up for all the time I lost when I was hurt; as I said, taking out my anger on any person who gets in my way of getting to the top.”

Now that Beth has returned to Raw and has apparently chosen to align herself with Melina, she may want to worry less about re-injuring her jaw and worry more about the new enemies she forged her first night back.

Reason for Angel Williams Release – You Aren’t Gonna Believe This!

Angel WilliamsAngel Williams had been in WWE’s developmental system for about two and half years and just wasn’t able to make it to the main roster for one reason or another. She was really close to being called up on at least two occasions, but it seems like something would always come up at the last minute to prevent her from finally breaking through into the big leagues.

Williams was on the brink of being called up to the SmackDown roster in January 2006 to replace Jillian Hall as JBL’s consultant, but her knee blew out at a Deep South Wrestling show a few days before her scheduled WWE debut. Also, Vince McMahon was impressed with how Jillian Hall reacted to The Boogeyman biting the cookie-like “growth” one her face on TV, so he changed his mind on replacing her. She was then close to being called with The Gymini, but the team didn’t impress management in their dark matches late last year, and they were subsequently let go about two months later.

Anyways, the reason given for Angel Williams’ firing is that well, management just didn’t feel that she was pretty enough to be a WWE Diva, and thus she was let go. PWInsider.com also reported that she had a bit of an attitude problem at times while in DSW, although it doesn’t look like she was necessarily released for that.

Furthermore, a person in the know with things down in Ohio Valley Wrestling said that Williams burst into tears upon receiving the news of her termination from Stephanie McMahon, who personally informed her that she was being let go from WWE. After her meeting with Stephanie, “she was blubbering like a baby,” the source said.

Beth Phoenix Speaks on Rumors of Being Fired by WWE

Beth PhoenixEarlier this week, several rumors were circulating on the ‘net that former WWE Ladies Champion and current OVW standout had been released by WWE. These rumors were completely untrue and unfounded. Beth posted the following message to her friends and fans today on her personal MySpace blog:

My status with WWE….

I’ve gotten swamped with emails in regards to an internet rumour that I was released early this week….it is totally false. I am saddened at the news of the other WWE releases but even more that my name was brought into the mix. I’ve worked my whole life towards becoming a WWE Diva. The beautiful thing about the Divas is that they are strong, beautiful, and individual. I love my job with all my heart and I’m so very proud to have the opportunity to represent the company I’ve been in love with my entire life. Although I don’t have to answer to or respond to the internet rumors that constantly come my way, I do owe the fans that have supported me over the past 7 years of my life. Yes I am still very much employed by WWE and working hard in OVW to one day return to WWE television and live my dream once again. Our business is all about patience and taking the good with the bad. If nothing else, you can be sure when you see Beth Phoenix, you will get 110% from me…everything in my heart.

All my love,

-Beth

All of us here at WWX would like to thank Beth for keeping her fans updated, and wish her a long and great career with WWE.

Breaking News: WWE Releases Two Divas

Shelly Martinez aka ArielIn the “well, we sure as hell didn’t see that coming” moment of the day…WWE announced a few minutes ago that they have released WWE Developmental Diva, Angel Williams. Angel made her debut for WWE Developmental territory OVW just a couple of days ago, and was said to have had a great match with OVW’s Serena Deeb. No reason, of course, was given for the release. We will definitely be following this story as it progresses and will hopefully be able to get an interview with Angel Williams in the near future for all of our readers and fans.

And in the “damn, that sucks” (pun intended) moment of the day…WWE has also announced the release of Shelly Martinez, aka super-hot vampire babe Ariel, from ECW. Non-divas that also were on the chopping block include Scotty 2 Hottie, Nick Mitchell (former Spirit Squad member), and of course, Sabu earlier this week.

Random News: Angel Williams Debuts in OVW, Victoria Sells Out, & More

Angel WilliamsAngel Williams, who had previously competed in WWE’s former developmental fed, Deep South Wrestling, made her debut in Louisville, KY’s Ohio Valley Wrestling last night. Angel was successful in her first match, besting fan-favorite Serena Deeb. It’s interesting to note that Angel was one of the very few developmental talents moved from DSW to OVW.

Victoria announced via her MySpace page that she has sold her Louisville, KY based pizzeria, Fat Tony’s Pizzeria. Here is her message:

What’s up, My Spacers? WWE will be in Louisville this Friday. Last year we had a little post party at my restaurant, Fat Tony’s Pizzeria, after the show. I just wanted to let people know that as of last Friday, I sold the restaurant. I want to thank everyone who helped make it the success that is was. It was an exciting and fruitful experience, and I am already looking toward my next venture. On a more personal note, I had to treat myself in some way for the restaurant sale. I think I have mentioned my love of motorcycles. I bought myself a Hayabusa. I love it!!! A lot of people told me that it would be too much bike for me. It’s too much bike for anyone, and that’s half the fun! I’ll put a picture of it on my website soon. ‘Busa Baby! Watch out Louisville pedestrians !!!lol…Later Hash Brown Potaters…

In rather sad news, it was reported today that “All About Brian” has been dropped from the ABC line-up due to poor ratings. Many of you will remember that former WWE Diva Stacy Keibler made several appearances on the series earlier this season.
